Peania (Greece) and Paris (France) February, 23rd 2009 – INTRAKAT S.A and SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT have entered into a Cooperation Agreement to develop jointly municipal solid waste management projects in Greece.
The agreement is oriented towards the development of waste-to-energy projects, an area in which SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT has developed a world class experience, operating more than 50 large Waste-to-Energy facilities in Europe and overseas and processing over 7 million tons every year.
The combination of INTRAKAT’s recognized know-how in implementing high-technology industrial solutions in Greece and SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT capacity in waste management is meant to provide financially sustainable, technically proven and environment friendly solutions to the challenges of waste management in Greece.
Waste to Energy technologies allow for a massive reduction in waste volume as well as production of electricity and steam, in a way that fully ensures environmental protection and complies with EU strategy for solid waste management.
Although widely used in Western Europe, North America and Japan, namely in large cities and capitals, waste-to-energy technologies are still unpracticed in Greece where most of municipal solid waste is landfilled without treatment, in contradiction with EU environmental objectives. It is expected that several large Greek Municipalities will launch Public-Private Partnerships in the coming months, where waste-to-energy systems could play a crucial role.
INTRAKAT was founded in 1987 and belongs to INTRACOM HOLDINGS GROUP of companies. The company holds a 7th degree contractor license from the Register of Contractor Companies, and as of November 2001 it listed on the Athens Stock Exchange. In 2005 INTRAKAT merged by absorption with Intramet (steel structure company). INTRAKAT has extensive experience and advanced know-how in the fields of constructions of technical projects, steel structure and telecommunication infrastructure projects. For over 20 years, the company implements public and private technical projects regarding: building works, infrastructure projects, advanced technology projects and telecommunications infrastructures, industrial and energy projects, E/M installations, steel structures, natural gas distribution projects and environment projects in Greece and abroad. INTRAKAT group employs 594 people.
