Water supply of Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos from the Aposelemis Dam – Reinforcement works in the Aposelemi Dam reservoir from the Lassithi Plateau

INTRAKAT recently signed a contract with the Ministry of Infrastructures, Transportations and Networks for the project “Water supply of Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos from Aposelemis Dam – Reinforcement works of Aposelemi Dam reservoir from Lassithi Plateau”, of total budget 38,14 million euro.

The construction of the project involves the reinforcement of the Aposelemi Dam reservoir from the Lassithi Plateau and includes the underground setting of part of the pipeline with the construction of a tunnel of 3,5 km approx., using TBM (tunnel boring machine) method.

In particular the project includes:

  • Plateau’s water diversion works (sinkholes isolation, afferent ditches, water intake works).
  • Construction of tunnel from Lassithi Plateau to Aposelemis reservoir, with a total horizontal length of approximately 3.5 km, including water input works to the tunnel at Plateau. Tunnel inclination approximately 15%.
  • Downstream works for the Plateau’s tunnel water outlet (penstock length 3.5 km), electromechanical installations for lighting, gates, energy destruction etc
  • Aposelemis torrent settlement from the energy destruction area  to Aposelemis reservoir and technical works for viaducts.

The project construction period is 32 months from the signing of the contract.
